In this area there is a certain anomaly of the Dominion power field.
Anderson
Confirmed. The power lines concentration in the sector is higher than usual.
Commander
What does it mean?
Anderson
Apparently, there is an incredibly high-powered object somewhere here.

Margaret
Unbelievable! Commander, I had been trying to intercept the Dominators` radio signal, but all the messages were encrypted.
And then the signal encryption failed – just for a minute! And I managed to go through the Dominion databases…
Commander
The encryption failed!? I don`t believe in coincidence… The enemy is playing with us. The data can be faked.
Elizabeth
Maybe it was a system crash. The Dominion isn`t ideal.
Commander
Let it be that way. What did you capture?
Margaret
The Dominion started drilling the planet crust near here. It`s going to reach the Utopia`s core – where the Xi`s key fragment is supposedly located.
Commander
Is that all?
Margaret
Yes. That`s all I have.
Commander
The Dominion decided to get close to Xi, but the result is unknown. Smells wrong and like a trick.
However, we can`t ignore the information… Let`s check it out.

There`s a spherical object detected along the line of sight.
Commander
Yes, I see. The thing resembles a new type of Dominators.
Margaret
It doesn`t look dangerous. Maybe, a non-combat robot?
Commander
It`s a real battle machine, I suspect.
The Dominion is a very rational computer and do nothing for fun.

Margaret
A pyramid! Just like on Earth… Is the Dominion following in the footsteps of pharaohs?
Commander
Anderson, any idea on what it is?
Anderson
I can`t even imagine it yet. The shape is strange. Non-ergonomic. We have never encountered anything like this in the architecture of the Dominion.
It`s definitely something very special. And the shape may be a functional requirement. I see no other explanation.
Commander
Let`s get closer and find out why the Dominion constructed here a pyramid that looks like one built by the Earth`s ancient civilizations.

Margaret
This Synthetic doesn`t attack us. What’s the reason?
Elizabeth
All is simple. His energy is about zero.
Commander
How is it possible? Anderson told me, there`s a power field feeding all the Dominion devices!
Elizabeth
The only variant is a malfunction.
Margaret
Something is wrong with him. Maybe, we can talk to him…

Hey, you! No kidding! You`re in my scope.

Who are you? And what has happened?
Hank
My name is Hank… Or, rather, was – until the Dominion digitized me. I am not a human anymore. I am a Synthetic.
I am one of the first Synthetics created by the Dominion. A series A-200 model. We were the first generation.
And now I am all alone. The last of my kind.
Commander
And what have happened to others?
Hank
The Dominion disconnected all the first generation Synthetics from the line. Our energy reserves have run out. We are all dead. Except me… I haven`t much time. Too little energy…
Commander
Why did the Dominion do it?
Hank
Excuse me, human. I can`t continue talking to you… Too… little… energy…

How did you become a synthetic?

A-200 [Hank]

I am a sergeant.. I was a sergeant of the Black Legion, Hank Russell. One of those who had followed Kurbatov of their own will. I wanted to fight for mankind.

It happened at the beginning of the war against the machines.

We learnt that the Dominion had started the construction of a new type of facilities. And we found something strange: the indirect evidence showed the presence of humans inside the buildings.

My squad was ordered to penetrate the Dominion territory, gather all the data on the facilities and report to the General himself.

The first part was a success, but not the second one. The buildings turned out to be incubators where the Dominion was digitizing humans.

The computer was programming human bodies there and assembling its Synthetics.

And then…My whole squad had been captured and sent to those very incubators as test subjects for the creation of the first Synthetics.

Why are you able to talk?

A-200 [Hank]

I belong to the first generation of Synthetics.

The characteristic feature of our generation is that our cybernetic devices have a secondary role.

The first Synthetics were made on the basis of the human brain and nervous system – all the cybernetic components were additional.

The second and the third generations of Synthetics are quite different.

Their basis is the Dominion cybernetic hardware and firmware. And a human body serves as a mere shell providing the regenerative abilities.

That s why our generation remained able to think and talk, unlike the modern Synthetics.

However, we had special blockers limiting these abilities. But after the disconnection from the power field the blockers stopped working…

Why were you disconnected?

Our generation was experimental. Now there exist the Synthetics of the third generation. And we are constrained by the limits of human perception. We are out of date.

The Dominion decided that it would be cheaper to destroy us than to maintain us.

However… I know that the Dominion keeps applying the first generation technologies.

It continues to use special protocols and support a Synthetic with unique ID “Hegemon”.

I’m sure, that this Synthetic has partly retained his own personality – just like me.
